MEI’s fun and free summer challenge is back for 2020!

Our Calculator Crunch is a fun way to continue to engage Year 6s with maths whilst also developing their confidence with calculators, ready for maths at secondary school. The activities in the challenge provide extra practice for Year 6s and 7s in key areas of the maths curriculum.

Parents and carers can use the challenge activities with their children at home, and teachers can incorporate them into work they are setting for pupils either in school or remotely.

On each weekday from 15-25 June @MEIMaths will tweet a question for children to work on. Each question will involve using a calculator (basic or scientific) to solve an interesting problem. The problems are designed to deepen children’s mathematical thinking skills.

Nrich have just published new features for Primary and Secondary. Both have numerous activities students can work on at home. The activities are categorised by age and within each collection you will find activities in various categories which are fully explained in the article for teachers.

If we look at Just Jottings for ages 11-14 we can see Cryptarithms, an activity I mentioned in a recent post, I like the idea here that students get away from the screen and just jot those thoughts down using pencil and paper. There are 6 such activities in this section.

Dr Frost – full coverage revision worksheets

From Dr Frost, additional really useful A Level Full Coverage Revision Worksheets.
Adding to his GCSE and IGCSE collections, Dr Frost now has an A Level series intended to “provide a single example of each of the variants of a type of question within a particular topic, rather than to provide multiple questions of exactly the same type to practise a single concept; the emphasis is broad coverage, collated from a huge database of past paper exam questions.”
