Number Gossip 2013
From Tanya Khovanova’s Number Gossip we see that 2013 has the above properties; the various properties discussed here would make an interesting series of starters; I do not want to wait until 2019 to recommend a look at Happy Numbers – this has worked really well with students. 2013 is not prime – perhaps a chance to review divisibility tests.

Your students might like the Math Forum Year Game (I came across  this thanks to Denise at Let’s Play Math).

Checking WolframAlpha for properties of 2013 we see that 2013 is bbb in base 13; work on number bases can provide ideas for starters or longer investigations. Nrich have combined happy numbers and base 8 in ‘Happy Octopus‘.

As is traditional for bloggers at this time of year – these are the Top 20 Posts of 2012.

The wonderful people at WordPress sent me an annual report for this blog, I quote:

‘19,000 people fit into the new Barclays Center to see Jay-Z perform. This blog was viewed about 120,000 times in 2012. If it were a concert at the Barclays Center, it would take about 6 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.’

So thank you so much for reading and wishing everyone a very happy 2013.
